新しい部員の候補として挙がった千代でしたが、野球はしないときっぱり大吾に断ります。
そんな中、シニアに入った仁科の旧友、千葉が野球部の活動に参加しますが歓迎されない様子。
当分はこのままで行こうと考える大吾でしたが、妹である千里は諦めていないようで、しかも仁科を見つめる千代を発見してしまい何やら案を思いついたようです。

ふたたび部員不足に見舞われた風林中。大吾は野球経験のある千里の姉・千代に声をかけたものの、あっさりと断られてしまう。推薦入学組のショート・千葉が加わったことで、かろうじて９人目の部員を確保することができたが、アニータや千里は、千代の加入をあきらめてはいなかった。そんなある日、仁科の下駄箱にアニータから意味ありげな手紙が届く。期待しながら（？）放課後の中庭に向かった仁科だったが…。

昼休み中に外で遊んでいた仁科。
彼が靴を履き替えるためにげた箱を開けると、アニータから手紙が。
放課後、話があるからと呼び出された仁科は校庭へと足を運びます。
そこに居たのはアニータだけではなく千里の姿も。
仁科は部活内での恋愛は出来ないと1人で勝手に話が止まらないようですが……。

アニータに惚れられると勘違いしていた仁科。
ですが、待ち構えていたアニータに告げられたのは千代が仁科の事を気にしているという内容でした。
千葉の性格とそれを受け入れられていない現状、部員は1人でも多いほうがいいという事は分かってはいますが、そういった気持ちに付け入るような行動に気が進まない仁科でしたが、言われたとおりに美術部へ向かいます。
ですが、入れ違いに千代自身からマネージャーになりたいという申し出が。
驚く仁科、そしてメンバーたちでしたが千代は選手としての入部ではなくマネージャーとして入部させてくれと申し出るのでした。
部活終了後、大吾は部員たちに練習試合が決まったことを告げます。
現状の予定では千葉をショートで起用する予定のようです。

雨が降り、腹痛を訴えて室内練習に参加しなかった千葉。
千葉に連絡するために別行動を取った大吾でしたが、他のメンバーたちは各々思うところがあるようです。
弥生は、千葉をショートで起用し太鳳と競わせようとする大吾を良く思っていないようで、睦子は室内練習についていけている千里を見て、運動能力は高いのではないのかと聞くのでした。
大吾と仁科は千葉の家へと向かいますが、千葉の腹痛は本当だったようで、しかも盲腸という診断。
1週間は入院をしなくてはならず、明後日の練習試合には参加できない事が分かります。
