投手不足に悩まされる風林中。
そこで手を挙げたのはなんと弥生でした。
ですが彼女を昔から知る人たちは不安を覚えています。
実は、彼女は以前肘を痛めてしまっていて、マウンドから降りたという経緯があったのです。
しかし、肘は完治したという弥生は、ピッチングを続けます。
好投は続きますが、ランナー1.2塁でフルカウントのピンチの中、睦子の守るライトへ打球が飛んでいくのでした。

風林中の起死回生の逆転劇、そして、ヒジの故障を乗り越えて力投する弥生に襲いかかる大尾中の強力打線！大吾率いる風林中と大尾中との決勝戦は劇的な幕切れを迎える―。そんな激闘を終え、自宅に戻った大吾は気力と体力を使い果たし、消耗しきっていた。精魂尽き果てた様子の大吾だったが、机の上に一枚の紙を見つけ、目の色を変える。それは、大尾中との死闘をスタンドから見届けた父・吾郎からの書き置きだった。

白熱する試合。
勝機の見えた試合でしたが、睦子の守るライトへ飛んで行った打球は、フェンスを越えてホームランに。
風林中はサヨナラ負けで、決勝戦を終えることになります。
試合を見終え、早めに帰ってきた吾郎や家族たちは風林中が負けてしまったことを知ります。
そして、大吾たちには中学生らしい日常が戻ってくるのでした。

家族にはお試し大会と言いながら、あと1歩のところで県大会に届かなった大吾のショックは大きく、ユニフォームも着替えず、夕食も食べようとせずに自室に籠ってしまいます。
机に突っ伏す大吾ですが、気づくとそこに吾郎からの手紙が。
手紙を読み元気を出した大吾は、最初は食べるつもりのなかった夕食を食べると言い出しますが、吾郎は次のコーチに向けて自分の夕食の分も大吾に食べてもらうように家族に言い残し飛び立っていったのでした。
温度差を感じる風林野球部

風林中野球部は、テストが終わってからすぐにいつも通りの部活に。
次は2か月後に開かれる大会に向けて、気合を入れて練習しようと大吾は燃えていました。
ですが、テストが終わった後に長時間の練習をし、休日も練習をしようと言う大吾に賛同するアニータ。
睦子は中立でしたが、太鳳や弥生、閑鳥はあまり良い顔をしておらず、大吾とは熱量の差があるようでした。
ついていけないという感じた太鳳はボイコットしようと考えますが、その想いを聞いていた弥生は翌日の朝に様子を見に行き、遅れながらも練習に参加。
太鳳は練習をしながら、ここまでの熱量は求めていなかったし、けがをしてピッチャーをやめていた弥生を担ぎ出そうとしている大吾に対し不満を抱き、男子と同じ練習量を女子に強いればつぶれる可能性もあると呟くのでした。
熱さの違い

大会が終わった後の練習量の多さ、ハードさや弥生のピッチャーとしての起用に不満を唱えるチームメイトの気持ちを汲み、睦子は大吾の元に練習量を減らさないかと提案します。
ですが、大吾はこのレベルでついてこれなければ辞めてもらっても構わないと言い、睦子は言われたことをそのままチームメイトたちにスマートフォンで伝えます。
翌日、オーバーワークと感じ、メンバーの事を思った太鳳は大吾に喧嘩をするつもりで部活に参加しますがそこに焦った様子の睦子がやってきます。
実は大吾が救急車で運ばれてしまい、練習は大吾抜きで行われることに。
数日休み、クールダウンした大吾は自分が大会に負けた悔しさで周りが見えていなかったことを自覚し、風林野球部は大吾の大切さを感じます。
大吾はメンバーに恵まれている事を実感するのでした。
